Solder wires into the PTHs, glue the part to the PCB and solder the wires to the short stubs of the cut leads.

Thanks for the input. I can't throw these parts away because there are no replacements. The part is obsolete but for this batch of certified parts that were altered. I have through holes on my PCB and the component (sensor) needs to be mounted vertically for current sensing purposes.

IMHO it is cheaper in the long run to throw the parts away and get new ones. Dependent on other constraints, bond the body to the PB substrate and lap solder bus wires to leads on the parts to the pads on the PB. I would have used the term jumper for the wires, but I didn't want to give you any ideas while trying to finish this exercise.

Hi Chris-

How many do you need to do?

Clearly insufficient weld. Welding is hard to set up properly and is extremely sensitive to the metal already on the surface. If any tin, then forget about it.

You can fix the welding process or you can craftily design a brass leadframe with good enough mechanical capture to survive reflow, or attach with a very high melting point alloy.

Subject: [TN] Reattachment of leads

Is anyone familiar with the re-attachment of leads to a through hole package when the original leads were cut? I have a very hard to find package that had leads cut half length in attempts to make surface mountable and want to add 4 leads to desired length. We tried a resistance weld process through a vendor to fuse the leads together but upon solder reflow the leads fell apart. I suspect thermal expansion or insufficient bonding to be the cause under heat so I need an optional process. Any ideas? The leads are tinned copper.

thanks
