Weight

Gold is much heavier than most people realise, as can be seen in the movies.
Most obviously to me the original The Italian Job film. The film ends with a
coach hanging half off a mountain cliff with a load of gold booty on
pallets at one end being balanced by the people in the coach at the other.
It can't be reached without the coach tipping off the cliff.
A genuine cliff hanger in fact....except the amount of gold as seen in the
coach would have been much heavier than the coach and would probably have
bent it in half anyway. Great film though.

For British readers: You're only supposed to blow the b*****y doors off.
:)

Regards

Mike

Subject: [TN] Calculate percent gold, by weight or volume?

When determining the percent gold in a solder connection, should one
calculate using volume or weight?

I always did this by calculating the volume of the solder and the volume of
the gold by thickness. Thinking that solder and gold were similar in
density. eeaAhh, yeah, NO. 11 oz/cuin. Versus 5 oz.

So, there is a big difference between calculating by weight and calculating
by volume. Which way is right?
