Raye,

Just like you said, the GFI outlet will catch any miswires if you have.  I wouldn't connect the test equipment to the GFI though.  It is viewed as a safety inspection screen for your techs and customer.

Hi Jim,

We could do either.  The important part to me is the unit under test, since techs probe these with chassis cover off to troubleshoot. And there is some tiny chance of a unit being incorrectly wired at box build.  I'm not much worried about the test equipment at the bench malfunctioning.

I have been tasked with ensuring that our functional test and troubleshooting workstations are set up safely. We are having some debate as to whether GFI protection is a good idea at these workstations. My question for the group is:

Have you ever had a GFI cause problems at a workstation?

I read a good thread on the technet archives about GFI at Hipot test, but I'm hoping for information at test stations in general.
