Subject: Re: [TN] Acetone as a cleaning agent for PCBA's

It can remove the resin buttercoat, and if left on it can penetrate into the soldermask bond and then ultimately into the resin bond of the FR-4 itself. Acetone is also known to dissolve certain polymers, especially diallyl phthallate (sp) and other connector body plastics, and will completely cloud over LED lens and other materials. It can cause some conformal coatings to swell up, so badly that the chip resistors and caps with conformal coating underneath will crack in half.
And it is especially bad for pregnant mothers-to-be, as it can cause the child to be born completely bare-naked and sometimes even bald! I once asked my mother if that is what happened to me, and she said "No, honey. Grass just does not grow on a busy street. "

To which my Dad observed, "Doesn't grow on a cement block either, son".

It will wipe off non epoxy ink markings.
Dissolve other materials that may not have been touched by your aqueous cleaner chemistry.
Leave a haze if not wiped off.

Remember Chem Lab and using it to clean test tubes?
Took some practice to end up with a clean test tube.

More flammable than IPA.
