Steve,
Wow, I saw your note and link, that was an interesting suggestion.
I did see that note under the heading of "Manual Assembly for Prototypes".
I wonder if they were just trying to make sure some engineers did a good job
of cleaning by hand?
Very often when I remove a part and solder using de-older braid there is a
lot of "Gunk" left on the PCB. I often use a Q-Tip and acetone to clean. I
find acetone a much more aggressive solvent and it dries quickly. This
thread gives me some comfort with using acetone.
But, wow does acetone burn and wow does it produce vapors. Probably not a
super safe desktop substance.
Bob

Subject: Re: [TN] Acetone as a cleaning agent for PCBA's
Hi Bob,
It's funny you should mention that. We're looking at building a board that
contains these little devices from Avago that says to clean with with
Acetone and rinse with Alcohol:
http://www.avagotech.com/docs/AV02-2001EN
I've never had to do that before. Hmmmmm....

Subject: [TN] Acetone as a cleaning agent for PCBA's
I have a customer that uses acetone to wipe down their PCBA's upon receipt.
The assemblies we make for them are cleaned using a closed loop aqueous
board washer then sampled for cleanliness with our zero-ion tester per
J-std-001E guidelines.
Recently this customer commented that boards appeared dirty upon cleaning
with the acetone. Does anyone have any thoughts on this acetone cleaning
process.
Thanks,
Bob
