David,

I agree with Roberts conclusion: best practice is vacuum either central based system or stand-alone with Hepa filter after each lay-up of book or surrounding area and use of tacky roller with adhesive pads or interleavers and core layers. Don't use this on the prepreg though, and be careful not to remove or damage any of the oxide or bond adhesion film on the core layers. Best to roller one side flat, then place face down onto the stack then roller the second side. It take a bit of organisation, but risk of FOD is greatly reduced.

Consider also, stacking of materials in a rack system, with cleanest material at top, like the copper foil, then cores then prepregs at bottom - saves clean materials being contaminated with falling particles and dust. As for copper foils, buy this in shiny to shiny, which save additional handling and potential damage.

Hi David,

Brushing tends to move dust, debris, particular matter around and not
actually pick it up.  Depending on the vigorousness of the action, can
actually cause the stuff you're trying to brush away to go places you
don't want it (into the setup perhaps).  I recommend more of a clean room
practice of vacuuming (central vac system) or a clean room hand tacky
roller with sticky pad, or web cleaner.  Organization of the lay-up
station can help minimize transfer of material of one type to another (say
prepreg dust onto copper foil, leading to resin spots)  or (slivers from
pre-tooled copper foil into prepreg, leading to shorts).

Subject:        [TN] Brushes for Use in PCB Lamination Area
Sent by:        TechNet <[log in to unmask]>

Hello All,

Can anyone recommend a good quality hand brush that can be used in a pcb
lamination layup area?  I'd like to use it for brushing off
plates/panels/foil during layup of lamination books.

Regards,
David Quiroz
