the first part of the week and then they'll be up to your facility ready 
to help you on a task(s) of your choosing. Since you are in Minneapolis, 
the boys will only have a short drive home at the end of the week which

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:

The Question:
This element is completely weird. It is a poor conductor of heat, has high

electric conductivity and a bizarre melting point. It is an element known
by the ancients and has been found in the tombs of the Chinese and
Egyptians. The author Lewis Carroll. What element is being described?

The Answer:
The element is Mercury (Hg)! Mercury is the only metal that exists as a
liquid at room temperature and  it is non combustible. The element has
been used by humans for hundreds of years and at one point was used as to
cure illnesses which didn't work as it is a deadly poison. Mercury can
readily make amalgams which are combinations of metals by solid solution
rather than melting. Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice in Wonderland",
who's character the Mad Hatter has foundation in individuals who undergo
slow mercury poisoning having loss of nervous system and brain damage. A
common use of mercury was mercury-vapor lights which have been replaced by
sodium-vapor lights in many cities.


Bonus Question: Provide the Latin word for which this element derives its
name.

Bonus Question Answer: The name mercury is derived from the Latin
'hydrargyrus' which means "liquid silver".

The FEQAB did review Doug's submission of "narnium" and while it was a
interesting story, it was deemed incorrect. CS Lewis was an outstanding
author and the "Chronicles of Narnia" are great stories. However, Lewis
Carroll was the author in the clue so the FEQAB was really confused by
author substitution. They believe that Doug may have under the influence
of a Diet Mountain Dew overdose which would be a plausible cause for the
confusion.

- It was a productive week. They arrived a bit later than planned on
Friday because their John Deeres had to slow down on the hills and curves
in the Galena area. Those buckets really affect their cornering.  Over the


weekend we took in some local culture with a trip north of the Cheddar
Curtain to the brewery in New Glarus, WI. If they talk about Fat Squirrel,


Spotted Cow, Two Women, and Totally Naked understand that these are styles


produced at the brewery.  During the week  the boys helped me write the
trip report for an assessment of an assembly operation. Their knowledge of


the IPC specs was very helpful.  They also helped compare gerber files for


replacement artwork against a sample Nd assisted with SEM work in the
Materials Lab.

- assisted with cleaning out the basement. We have been here 6 years, it
will not take long. Will have a large assortment of the local sausages and

beer, not AB. Tell them to watch out for freezing rain, sit tight
somewhere warm.  No one can drive on wet ice. Better to delay or skip trip

than wreck.
