The press fit header solderable type?

Product that are built around function alone have not been designed at all, but merely engineered. -prof. Ashby

I do believe that depends on the connector spec.

MIL-A-28870 required vibration per MIL-STD-1344 Method 2005 conditions III and IV...those are 15g and 20g, respectively. Also shock up to 100g's. I know there are MANY of such assemblies built, qualified, and in-service.

Hi Joyce,

I'm curious. What do you mean by 10g ?

The force per pin to insert nickel-gold is higher than solder coated, but it is manageable with today's insertion equipment, not arbor presses and flat rock tooling like I had to use eons ago. The nickel-gold pins have to be inserted at a lower rate than solder coated, but otherwise work well.

I've never heard of this and I was wondering if there is any quality/reliability data in the industry as to why one should/shouldn't do this. Our customer's explanation was that it would add mechanical integrity to the joints. Thanks in advance.
