Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:
This element was known to the ancient Greeks who used it to fumigate their

homes. When melted, this element's viscosity increases. This element is
one of the 4 major commodities of the chemical industry. Forty million
tons of this element are produced annually. What element is being
described?

Bonus Question: Provide the Old English and Sanskrit origin words for this

element.

The Answer:
The element is Sulfur or Sulphur (S)! Sulfur is an amazing element with
lots of unique characteristics. Sulfur burns with a beautiful blue flame -
the word "brimstone" is from old English meaning "a stone that burns".
Sulfur has three allotropic forms: Rhombic which we know as brimstone,
Monoclinic which is light yellow in color and melts at 119.3C and
Amorphous which is formed when sulfur is cooled very quickly. Amorphous
sulfur is soft and elastic but changes back to brimstone as it cools.

The Bonus Answer:
The Sanskrit word "sulvere" and the Latin word "sulphurim" are cited as
the origins for the word "sulfur" or "sulphur".

The winner of the weekly element quiz is Larry Dzaugis, and he will get
the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for a few days before Xmas. Larry,
let me know where you are located so I can get the boys heading that way
asap. Steve Mikell submitted the first correct Bonus question answers so
the boys will visit him in Florida after the Xmas. The boys will be
spending the Xmas holiday with their families and enjoying the cold, snowy
Iowa weather.

Clumpy and Kloumpios (and Doug and Dave) wish everyone a happy holiday
season! Be safe, eat too much and laugh as often as possible!

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

Malibu.

Week 34 Dewey Whittaker, Honeywell
- the "Boys" and I went to Las Vegas to polish up on their comedy act. I
told them that "what happens in Las Vegas, Stays in Las Vegas". I think
they took me literally. I got a note from a Dancer that they left contact

information in the secret safe where Doug keeps the key to his Mountain
Dew stash. Their previous time spent with Graham paid off as they also
took my American Express card. I hope they get back safe.

Week 35 Don Vischulis
- It was a productive week. They arrived a bit later than planned on
Friday because their John Deeres had to slow down on the hills and curves
in the Galena area. Those buckets really affect their cornering. Over the

weekend we took in some local culture with a trip north of the Cheddar
Curtain to the brewery in New Glarus, WI. If they talk about Fat Squirrel,

Spotted Cow, Two Women, and Totally Naked understand that these are styles

produced at the brewery. During the week the boys helped me write the
trip report for an assessment of an assembly operation. Their knowledge of

the IPC specs was very helpful. They also helped compare gerber files for

replacement artwork against a sample Nd assisted with SEM work in the
Materials Lab.

Week 36 Greg Munie, IPC

Week 37 Bonus Question Steve Mikell

Everyone have a safe and happy holidays.
