A training/certification program to help with understanding 6012 and some related documents has been developed for IPC by Trace Labs - East. We conducted a beta class and based on recommendations from students made a decision to expand the course by a day. This became apparent during training because use of 6012 requires referring to and following criteria in a number of additional documents.

John Perry is staff liaison for the 6012 task group and has been coordinator of 6012 course development, working with the industry IPC-6012 Technical Training Committee. When the course is completed it will be administered the same as all other IPC training and certification programs (www.ipc.org/certification).

This course is focused on understanding the requirements--not training on how to fabricate PCBs.

Randy Cherry isn't directly involved with training and certification but were' all on the IPC team. He's heading up IPC's Validation Unit that is working with industry to develop qualified product lists--congratulations to Indium Corp. for the first solder QPL:? http://www.ipc.org/ContentPage.aspx?pageid=Indium-Corporation-Receives-First-IPC-J-STD-004-QPL-Certification For more information about IPC’s Validation Services QPL/QML Program, contact Cherry at [log in to unmask] or +1 847-597-2806.

Jack Crawford will know details, but think IPC has brought on Randy Cherry to run the new certification program.
