Press-fit connectors normally formed by section of blocks and, as mentioned by Philip, it can be removed but the process is destructive to the connector.

Subject: Re: [TN] Press Fit Connector replacement

I had some experience.....but I have not performed this for about ten years......

I used to remove and replace press fit connectors when we would have problems with proper insertion.

It required completely destroying the connector body with cutters and extracting the compliant pin by pin out of the PWB with a pair of pliers.

I do not remember damage to the barrel after removal.

The key was having the right amount of copper plating in the barrels.

Subject: [TN] Press Fit Connector replacement

Hi All

Any views or experience of replacing press fit connectors ? I have some concerns since I would assume there would be some copper thp distortion during the first fit and this may affect the reliability of the refit ? Some internet trawling seems to show that the "compliant" design pins, where there is a slot in the centre, are more compatible with remove and replace since some of the distortion will be in the pin. It is a "compliant" type of pin in my case but could do with some assurance that this would be OK to do.

Any thought / experiences appreciated

Regards

Bryan Kerr
