Here's a great one!

A few years ago, my stepson's Jeep was misfiring and he asked me for help. I figured we should start with common maintenance items. Checked the air cleaner and the filter cartridge was missing. New filter and plugs purchased, and when installing one of the plugs, we found this:

I was really lucky to get this shot, as when we touched it, it fell to fine ash. Poor little guy never felt a thing!

New filter & plugs, ran like a top.

Moral of the story: Perform scheduled maintenance and don't take shortcuts i.e., not putting parts back!

Was trying to think of something witty to say about the Gecko and Geico car insurance but couldn't think of anything....hehehe

Victor,

In the past 13 years I had the opportunity to document three creature caused failures of telecommunication products. I've attached photographs of the three creatures (snake, ant, and gecko) and have copied Steve in hopes that he will post the photos for others to see.
We believe the creatures were alive when they caused a short-circuited and failed the electronics and died by electrocution. We know this might be viewed as cruel and unusually punishment by some but we viewed the creatures were trespassing. Our customers weren't upset at what happened to the creatures but they were glad that we were able to identify the root cause for the failures.

Regards,
George

Fellow TechNetters:

Can the remains of Insects/Bugs skeletal on the surface of a motherboard cause a functional failure before they died?

Victor,
