Hello Francesco,

a good standard who gives the procedure how to perform the pul. strength test of gull-wing leaded components is IEC 62137-1-1 Pull Strength Test

It tells the method how to perform the test, the suitable tools, and gives also the procedure how to asses the interfaced solder joint once pulled-off (land side, lead side, solder side, etc).

Unfortunately does not give any value of expected strength value.
I suppose to many variables are involved, terminal lead finishing, solder alloys, pcb land finishing, etc , that could influence the results, so not so easy to fix a value, or at lead a range of values....

Normally, the resulta are compared with known strength value data base (when available) collected by experience.

On the literature, we can find results obtained by several facilities during they studues, but in my reminiscence, as far as I remember I never met Standard indicating the strength target values to reach.

Let's see if any other Techetter has news on this matter.

Best Regard

Gabriele

Oggetto: [TN] Acceptance criteria for lead pull test

Hello Technet,

We have performed pull test for leads of QFP modules for a customer.
Now we were looking to find out which is the acceptance criteria for this
test in terms of the expected shear strenght for these leads.
Does anyone know where in which standards we can find these criteria.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best regards
Francesco
