Rich and others,
Some more history: Short chain silicones would also creep across a PCB and
get into mechanical switches and in the little spark that formed just as the
switch was closing the silicone molecules would decompose to form silica,
another really good insulator that would NOT get out of the way.

Subject: Re: [TN] Silicone adhesives on tapes

I only have seen some "suspected" occurrence of this.

Somewhat dependant on how much is deposited, was the tape baked, and if you
have an aromatic solvent based coating. The latter can extract some adhesive
from the tape perimeter.

You can however use Si based tape and never have issues.

I personally think that is tendency to over react to the term silicone.
That is due to hand-soldering where we all learn that silicone hand lotions
hamper solderability (which they can), and older Si Ccings that use some
rather obsolete cure catalyst mechanisms.

Do you think the silicone adhesive on Kapton and Shercon tapes can create a
manufacturing issue during conformal coating or for sensitive electronics?
Doug, I would be especially interested in your respected input on this
question.
