Don, totally agree on" checks email less frequently ". Org with Subject matter better for the pull email type. However, it is functional not as well for us work bees that dealing with multiple working groups, with demand to response almost immediately. (I think real estate agents, judge fund traders , engineering groups might find push email is necessitate and Org by time is better). I personally got very upset when some of the emails ranked time wrong due to time zone change. (dave's Friday question for example), you have to dig out the response based on discovery, facts, and derision making sequence with logic. My 2 cents.

Emails in Outlook can be organized by subject rather than by date received. This organizational method is the default in some email programs. It does make it easier to follow discussions especially if one checks emails less frequently.
