Steve,
What is the year make model of his truck? $600.00 seems a bit high to me, since I can get one for my Ford Diesel for about $160: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-Alternator/2006-Ford-F250-Super-Duty-P-U-4WD/_/N-jnmdvZ9ci9i?itemIdentifier=209339_191633_4451_
Between the cost of the diode, effort to install it and cumulative downtime, the above option is probably quite cost effective.
FYI, generators don't have diodes, they make DC directly, only alternators (they make AC, the diodes rectify it to DC) have diodes.

Subject: [TN] Identifying ST Microelectronics Diode
Hi All!
Hope you all had a good Independence Day! Mine was great! Sat back and enjoyed the time off from work, and appreciated all the sacrifice and effort that was made by the generations before me so that I could enjoy what I have today.
Anyway, there's this maintenance guy where I work who is just awesome when it comes to fixing things, but he has run into something that he's having trouble with. The generator in his truck came apart, and he's been able to get everything back together except for a couple of diodes that are inside. They are both the same and I have a couple of pictures of it:

You can see that it is an axial diode, and appears to be a STMicroelectronics diode. I tried to show the markings that are on it, which are:
C9245
BY628S
I don't know what this really is. I've searched, and searched and can't find anything that ties into the numbers that's marked on the diode. Forget about calling STMicroelectronics, you'll get routed to somebody's voicemail to leave a message that will never be returned. Does anybody know what diode this is?
I might be able to save my maintenance guy around $600 if I can find him replacement diodes for his truck generator. He won't have to buy a new generator then...
Steve
