Michael,

I never use a GFCI or GFI with test equipment.    That device is one of 
the most misused pieces of equipment out there, it is designed to 
interrupt power should an internal short occur.    If you are using a 
piece of electrical equipment that has a grounded case, or is double 
insulated the ground is isolated or is housed in plastic the GFI, GFCI 
is not necessary.

If you are using a ungrounded piece of equipment then the GFCI or GFI is 
used to provide a circuit interruption should the neutral go to ground, 
also beneficial if you are using equipment in or around water.

The exception to this is a piece of equipment O'scope or Hi-pot that you 
are referencing to something other then ground.

So it depends on how you are referencing the hi-pot.

Personally I don't use them unless I am using equipment around water.
