Try performing EDX on a bar of solder.
Another question, if the trace amounts do not violate J-STD-006, then who cares?

Just blind guessing on my part. I was suspecting cross-contamination of some sort. We utilize titanium wave soldering pallets, but they are cleaned in a dedicated machine.
I've never seen any trace of titanium during EDX analysis of our solder joints.

Richard, so What would cause it to leach into the solder? -- Improper coating application? Temperature of the solder in the pot?...etc., etc.,. would this show up in solder analysis? (Are the labs doing these analysis even checking for Ti?)
Leland, no Ti pallets on our products, but not sure if they are used on someone else's. I will check. However, is your concern that the Ti is leaching from the pallets into the saponifier and is being re-deposited on the assemblies in the wash?

Many newer wave-solder and selective solder machines have a titanium-lined pot and/or sump. The newer the machine, the higher the Ti count.

We are seeing some titanium residues (confirmed by EDX) on solder joints after wave soldering post wash (that is not to say they are not present post wave, more analysis is ongoing). Water soluble process, high lead alloy, and a saponified wash. So far the Ti residues are only detectable on the solder joints, not on the assy surface. For general information. what are some possible sources of Ti on the assembly?
