Hi Denny - You are awarded the first Friday Element Quiz Round Two "I
found the first reference book error" Medal of Honor. The reference book
has BaSO4 correctly listed as sulfate except for in the Balogna discussion
section where it states "sulfide". I will contact the reference book
author and let him know of the "oops". During the first round, the TechNet
community found 5 errors in the reference book.

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz Answer
Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:
The Question:
Accurate values for this element's properties are minimal because in pure
form it will ignite when exposed to air, water, ammonia, oxygen and the
halogens. This element does not exist in a pure state on earth, only as a
compound or in an ore. A compound of this element makes an excellent
bleaching agent that can be stored in paper packages. What is the element
is being described?
The Answer:
The element is Barium (Ba)! The name barium is derived from the Latin
"barys" which means "heavy". Getting accurate properties data for barium
is difficult due to its extreme reactivity. Alchemists knew about barium
minerals in the early Middle Ages. Smooth, pebble-like stones from Balogna
Italy would continue to "glow" after being exposed to a light source.
These became known as "Balogna stones" and were very popular with witches
and alchemists. The stones were BaSO4 - barium sulfide - which is a major
source of barium metal today.
The winner of the weekly element quiz is Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc. and
he will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week. The boys are looking forward to going back to that
portion of the US and not have to be kayak haulers.
So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

- Tell the boys to be prepared for helping do FOD walks at one of my
suppliers. I bet when the employees at this supplier see these 2 guys on
the FOD walk it will get their attention and help raise awareness of the
importance of preventing FOD.
Week 16 Steve Gregory
-I need them to help me start-up a new (used) Vitronics/Soltec wave
machine we recently got here. It's gonna' be fun (if that's what you want
to call it), we have to fill the Vitronics with a tin wash so we can get
the wave formers and nozzles out, clean everything up, and then empty the
pot. Then we've got to empty the pot in the old Electrovert machine that
we have and have that solder ready for the Vitronics. Then we'll play
musical wave machines by moving the Electrovert and placing the Vitronics
where it was sitting, then we'll fill the Vitronics again.
