Well now, I would have to say that the answer to Dave's quiz is another of
the half fractional elements - Hallucinium (Hc), a very interesting
material in the alkaline metals family. It gets some of its odd
properties from irregular electron shell pair matching. Sometimes its
there man, sometimes its not....

With the prevalence of alkaline earth in Egpyt, it is only natural that
they were the first users of Hallucinium. A small amount of Hc worked
into the early forms of Hookahs resulted in, shall we say, a more vivid
and longer lasting mental experience. Early users noted 2-3 times the
length of a standard hallucination when Hc was part of the glass hookah.
Not surprisingly, it was the preferred relaxation approach for many of the
Pharoahs, but with the unfortunate side effect of making all the hair fall
out. That is why they had to have Yul Brenner play Pharaoh in The Ten
Commandmants - historical accuracy.

As Dave indicates, Hc is not found as a pure metal, but most often as
HcCl9. It is not often you find a nonachloride salt. It is purple in
color. If inhaled, it is toxic above a certain threshold and those dying
of Hc inhalation have reported everything taking on a purple cast, hence
the origin of the Jimmy Hendrix song Purple Haze.

Now, with the additional clue "goblin" Dave is actually being a little
sneaky. The clue was originally "gobbling". Another of the side effects
of Hc is that it induces a severe case of "the munchies" as you come down
from the Hc high. Not surprisingly, most marijuana has a small amount of
Hc in it.

You can see a documented case of Hc effects here:

You can see why Dave Hillman picked this clue.

It is not really known who first isolated pure Hc, cuz ya know, when
there's a bunch of that stuff in the air man, things get fuzzy, things get
blurry, then everything was gone. Makes it hard to draw up professional
documents when you are stoned. As many college students have learned.

Now, if my esteemed colleague disqualifies me, you will know he has some
Hc stashed in that SuperFund drawer of his.

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:

The Question:
This element was used by the Egyptians in glass making. A compound of
this element is flammable and toxic if inhaled. It is not found in its
free metallic state on Earth. This element is expelled from the body by
the kidneys because of the vitamin B12. The word "goblin". What is the
element is being described?

The winner of the weekly element quiz will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

Past Quiz winners/tasks:
Week 1 Dick Krug, Spartan Complex Systems
Week 2 Laura Turbini, IRC
Week 3 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
Week 3 Pat Goodyear, PGE
Week 4 Joe Russeau, Precision Analysts Laboratory
Week 5 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
Week 6 Steve Gregory
Week 7 Phil Kinner, PVA
Week 8 Brian Ellis
Week 9 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
Week 10 Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc.

Week 11 Keith Calhoun, Sopark Corp
- assisted with getting my boat ready for this summers fishing trips.
Today we will be replacing a conveyor in
one of my reflow ovens, then wave maintenance for the rest of the week.

Week 12 Matthias Mansfeld, Mansfeld-Elektronik
- They can really help me with my CAD library (big pile of datasheets on
my desk, new stuff for these layouts). I'd give them a Cadstar crash
course. If the library work is done or if they need a break, they can have

much fun with our two cats. Later they could visit Munich.

Week 13 Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc.
- assisted with performing cross sections for the team this week. If they

finish early, I'm going to let them spend a couple of days fishing at the
coast after our three day rain.

Week 14 Brian Ellis
- The boys are taking a red-eye flight back to you, eta 04:35 tomorrow
morning. They expect you to meet them at the airport as they have a
truck-load of Cypriot delicacies, including a bottle of zivania for Doug
to turn his Mountain Dew into Mountain firewater, ideal for cleaning PCBs.

My weather station is well calibrated, now.

Week 15 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
- Tell the boys to be prepared for helping do FOD walks at one of my
suppliers. I bet when the employees at this supplier see these 2 guys on
the FOD walk it will get their attention and help raise awareness of the
importance of preventing FOD.

Week 16 ????
- assisted with ????

Everyone have a safe week!
