Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:
The Question:
This element was used by the Egyptians in glass making. A compound of
this element is flammable and toxic if inhaled. It is not found in its
free metallic state on Earth. This element is expelled from the body by
the kidneys because of the vitamin B12. The word "goblin". What is the
element is being described?
The Answer:
The element is Cobalt (Co)! The name cobalt was derived from the German
word "kobolds". German miners had mistaken cobalt ores for copper ores and
when they had difficulties extracting copper, they blamed the issue on
mountain gnomes (kobalds or goblins") who had placed an evil spell on the
ore to prevent the removal of the copper. The Egyptians used cobalt ores
for producing highly prized deep blue glass. Cobalt chloride (CoCl2) is
used in the manufacture of vitamin B12. The human body removes excess
cobalt thru the kidneys. Cobaltous nitrate is both flammable and toxic
when inhaled.
The winner of the weekly element quiz is Steve Gregory and he will get the
services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week. Maybe they can unpack your moving boxes!
The Friday Element Quiz Arbitration Board (FEQAB) reviewed Doug's
submission and after significant research disqualified his Hallucinium
response. The FEQAB was deeply insulted when Doug completely ignored the
gnome heritage connection to Cobalt but understands that Doug may have had
tried one of the new Mountain Dew Kickstart products which would explain
why he submitted a fuzzy, blurry answer.
So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

- They can really help me with my CAD library (big pile of datasheets on
my desk, new stuff for these layouts). I'd give them a Cadstar crash
course. If the library work is done or if they need a break, they can have
much fun with our two cats. Later they could visit Munich.
Week 13 Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc.
- assisted with performing cross sections for the team this week. If they
finish early, I'm going to let them spend a couple of days fishing at the
coast after our three day rain.

- The boys are taking a red-eye flight back to you, eta 04:35 tomorrow
morning. They expect you to meet them at the airport as they have a
truck-load of Cypriot delicacies, including a bottle of zivania for Doug
to turn his Mountain Dew into Mountain firewater, ideal for cleaning PCBs.
My weather station is well calibrated, now.
Week 15 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
- Tell the boys to be prepared for helping do FOD walks at one of my
suppliers. I bet when the employees at this supplier see these 2 guys on
the FOD walk it will get their attention and help raise awareness of the
importance of preventing FOD.
Week 16 Steve Gregory
