Application is predominately going to be on wire spices not PCBAs. If we have a failed PCBA that always goes back to our production area. And yes, Ed is right our PCBAs are thick and fun to work on! Also, at this time we don't solder in space....give us time.

Thanks for all your suggestions and comments. I think we will test drive one and consider the battery powered one and see how it works out in our application.

What temp does lead (Pb) atomize? Got to be pretty close to the 1076 F temp.

Thanks,

Gregg

Hmmm, not sure what would be the impact if you use it in vacuum. Better not ;-).

Subject: [TN] Butane Soldering Irons

Since we hand solder outside of the normal manufacturing floor, our technicians are requesting to use a butane soldering iron. I have no previous experience with this type of soldering iron. With a temperature setting of 1076°F it seems rather high and potentially damaging to resulting solder connection, insulation, people, etc.

Any thoughts from experience would be most appreciated.

Gregg
