Hi Joyce - the answer is yes for you, but when Doug and I actually get a book pulled together would be in August...............we just don't know what year yet.

Hi Joyce - two big issues on the timeline: (1) Doug and I don't know how to say "no" so we are always buried in some type of ususally fun task; (2) I have attempting to create a Periodic Table of Doug's half fractional elements that makes some kind of sense. But his atomic weights are very messed up with the half fractional element properties and he hasn't even started on the Noble gas section yet. I may need to get FEQAB to do some real work.

Well, actually, writing a book is on Hillman's and my "bucket list".
Playing with a working title of "It Hurts When I Do This - Don't Do This".

Perhaps the half fractionals could be an Appendix.

Doug,

I really think you SHOULD write a book, it could be very entertaining,
have Steve do the cartoons.

The answer to this morning's quiz is Anubium (Ab), another of the half
fractional elements. Anubium is often found near deposits of Egyptium,
covered earlier. Those familiar with Egyptian mythology know that Anubis
was the god of embalming and the dead and was often characterized as a man
with the head of a black jackel. The earliest hieroglyphics in Egypt
showed Anubis with the head of a white jackel. It is believed that when
Anubis and Osiris were children, Osirus was playing with flint and steel
and set Anubis' head on fire, hence the blackened appearance. Anubis
thereafter had a fear of sparks, developed a new element to alloy into
copper (making bronze), which would not create sparks, ushering in the
Bronze Age.

Anubium was first isolated by the brilliant Egyptian chemist, Omar
Gottalottasand, Egypt State University - Aswan, in 1841. It was found
that in the tomb of Pharoah Sekhemib-PerenmaŽat, there were signs of small
explosions in the crypt, usually in areas near Anubium-alloyed metals. He
found that Anubium, usually found as Anubium tetrasulfate (Ab2S4) in
mineral form, served as an amazing catalyst to turn vapors from bodily
composition into hydrogen, resulting in the explosions in the crypt, which
also had traces of Boomium nearby (bad combination). Not a great deal was
published about Anubium as Dr. Gottalottasand came to a tragic end. He
got into some bad falafel and the resulting methane interacted with a
sample of pure Anubium. The resulting fireball is still considered one of
the largest man made explosions prior to the advent of nuclear weapons.

I am amazed none of the rest of you know about these "special" elements. I
should write a book.

There ya go Larry.

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:

The Question:
This element was known to the Egyptians in its mineral form. Alloying 2%
of this element with another element produces an alloy that when used in
hammering/striking applications will not cause sparks - an especially good

characteristic in an explosive gas environment. A compound of this element

has been used to produce hydrogen for fuel cells. What is the element is
being described?

The winner of the weekly element quiz will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

Past Quiz winners/tasks:
Week 1 Dick Krug, Spartan Complex Systems
Week 2 Laura Turbini, IRC
Week 3 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
Week 3 Pat Goodyear, PGE
Week 4 Joe Russeau, Precision Analysts Laboratory
Week 5 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
Week 6 Steve Gregory

Week 7 Phil Kinner, PVA
- assisted with booth duty at a French tradeshow and then helped get an
Easter egg hunt ready for 20 kids

Week 8 Brian Ellis
- the guys arrived this morning, thanks. This is the end of the most
prolific part of the growing season and weeds abound. The John Deere's
will be very useful to help eliminate them. Kloumpios has said he will
prepare a traditional Cypriot ttavas (lamb pieces with veggies with cumin
and wild herbs, slow oven-cooked in a special unglazed clay pot - Google
it) for the 1 April Cyprus National Day.

Week 9 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
- My Welsh colleague Jeff, whose desk is next to mine, was on holiday this

last week so Clumpy and Kloumpios parked themselves in his seat and spent
the week spouting jibes and insults, particularly about English Rugby - it

was just like Jeff was still there! I think you could put that down as
"providing workplace entertainment and uplifting moral".

Week 10 Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc.
- assisted with a 5S effort - They're scrubbing, replacing old floor tape,

and helping to get things in pristine shape.

Week 11 ????
- assisted with ????

Everyone have a safe week!
