Ahhh, my esteemed colleague refers to the little known Evereadium, another
of the half fractional elements. And a nasty element it is. Evereadium
(Ev-99.5) is part of the actinic series. It decays into an isotope of
Neptunium (Np-92.5) and this isotope is what is used to communicate with
submarines via lasers. Originally, Neptunium was named Poseidonium, but
the Romans were more numerous than the Greeks.
In the initial trials with the Navy, the amount of Neptunium was decidedly
too high for the laser and somewhat sawed the target submarine in half. So
much for the theory that if a little is good a lot is better. The initial
research team was killed by intense radiation. It was found that the only
safe way to approach the blast site was in a lead lined pink bunny suit
with a large drum on the front. That became the mascot for a new battery
company - Eveready, At the blast site it was found that the second decay
product of Evereadium reacted well with Lithium, making an incredibly
powerful energy storage combination. That decay product combination
however produced the lethal beta radiation Dave refers to. Therefore, the
only safe place Evereadium decay batteries can be safely used is to use
it where people isn't, namely space.
Now I can go into the weekend happy, as I have educated many
peoples.........

Sent by: TechNet <[log in to unmask]>
Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:
The Question:
This element is not found in nature. The beta rays produced by this
element have been used produce nuclear batteries for space craft
electrical functions. This element's beta rays have also been used to
produce a special laser that can communicate with submarines. What is the
element is being described?
The winner of the weekly element quiz will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week.
So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:
Past Quiz winners/tasks:
Week 1 Dick Krug, Spartan Complex Systems
Week 2 Laura Turbini, IRC
Week 3 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
Week 3 Pat Goodyear, PGE
Week 4 Joe Russeau, Precision Analysts Laboratory
Week 5 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
Week 6 Steve Gregory
- assisted with packing for Steve's next cross country move.
Week 7 Phil Kinner, PVA
- assisted with booth duty at a French tradeshow and then helped get an
Easter egg hunt ready for 20 kids
Week 8 Brian Ellis
- the guys arrived this morning, thanks. This is the end of the most
prolific part of the growing season and weeds abound. The John Deeres
will be very useful to help eliminate them. Kloumpios has said he will
prepare a traditional Cypriot ttavas (lamb pieces with veggies with
cumin and wild herbs, slow oven-cooked in a special unglazed clay pot -
Google it) for the 1 April Cyprus National Day.
Week 9 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
- My Welsh colleague Jeff, whose desk is next to mine, was on holiday this
last week so Clumpy and Kloumpios parked themselves in his seat and spent
the week spouting jibes and insults, particularly about English Rugby - it
was just like Jeff was still there! I think you could put that down as
"providing workplace entertainment and uplifting moral".
Week 10 ????
- assisted with ????
Everyone have a safe week!
