Yes. We had the same problem. When we discovered that the material was sugar, we solved the problem by having the operators lick the stuff off on their breaks.
No more problems.
We do have a lot of diabetic operators for some reason, however.

We've been through the same exact problem. Yes, they will shorten your DI bed life. The material is a lactose binder (sugar). We actually found on some wave soldered boards they got too hot and discolored the PCB surface.
We simply stopped using them and instead integrated permanent mechanical spacers into designs that use TH parts and also required spacers. We get them thru Bivar.

Subject: [TN] Bivar Diss-O-Pads and closed-loop DI systems
Hi All,
We're getting ready to change our cleaner out with a closed-loop system, and I was wondering if the use of Bivar Diss-O-Pads will harm the DI beds? I have a call into Bivar, but I thought I would ask TechNet while I was waiting.
I know I'm going to have to change the water soluble mask that is currently used to one that doesn't harm the DI beds, but I don't know about the Diss-O-Pads...
Steve Gregory
