You start with 500 lbs solder with 60.25% lead (Present Lead Percentage, or
PLP )and you want 500 lbs solder with 63% lead (New Lead Percentage or NLP).
To get there you remove X lbs of solder, (now 500-X lbs of solder in the
pot) and add X lbs of lead to get back to 500 lbs of solder. Neglecting the
small amount of "impurities".

(500-x)*PLP+x=NLP*500
500*PLP-x*PLP+x=NLP*500
500*PLP-(1-PLP)*x=NLP*500
x=(NLP-PLP)*500/(1-PLP)
x=(0.63-0.6025)*500/(1-0.6025)
Stick formula in Excel, or use trusty calculator: 34.6 lbs of lead to be
added.

Welcome to Boise.
I expect you will like the Pacific NW.

Ahne.

Subject: Re: [TN] Low Tin Levels in wave solder pot...

Hi All,

I just got an email back from a guy named Derrick Herron of Indium who sent
me a really useful spreadsheet that makes it simple to calculate what you
need to take out of your pot, and how much tin you should add based on the
numbers you get back from an analysis to put everything back into spec, and
I thought that I would share this with everyone. Makes it dead simple even
for me!
