Dave,

The boys arrived and immediately ate pizza and drank 2 bottles of my best wine. Then they got very excited and said something about hidden treasure at the southern tip of Italy and before I knew it they were on their tractor singing and headed south. I didn't even get a chance to ask them if they could help with my current risk reduction task. Well they got back last night and started to tell me some fantastic stories about a place called the Regional Natural Park Costa Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase. This is a regional park of Puglia, Italy and of particular importance is the "hidden" fauna, delicate ecosystem that invites many species of bats and rare appearances of aquatic fauna in dark environments of the caves, some partially submerged, in the Park. The boys told me that some of their relatives actually settled in this area many centuries ago and they went to visit them. They also told me about the area around the park. There are fortified farms all over the countryside with beautiful noble villas that tower above the farms and overlook the area. This is a strategic place and has always been a crossroad for past civilizations. I most go visit this place. Anyway the boys are now rested and ready for their next adventure. So much for helping me but I was very glad to see them and have some company.

I look for the FEQ winner this week and make sure the boys catch the first flight out of Grottaglie.

Ciao,
Tom

Hi Tom - I called the boys on their Blackberries and they are now diverting to Chicago O'Hare to catch a cargo flight to Grottaglie. They said they would give you a call when they land and they are very happy to hear the words "wine, pasta and sun"! Too much snow here in Iowa for them right now.

Dave

Dave,

Better have the boys hop on the first flight to Italy. I'm currently in Grottaglie Italy (heel of the boot). Just have them fly into the Grottaglie Italy airport and I'll pick them up. Hope they like Pasta, Pizza and Wine. Tell them to bring their shorts, it's starting to warm up here.

Best Regards,
Tom

Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz Answer

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:
A total of 8 tons of this element is extracted every year. An radioactive isotope of this element is used for industrial material thickness measurements. The word "hidden". What element is being described?

The Answer:

The element is Krypton (Kr)! The word Krypton was derived from the Greek word "kryptos" meaning "hidden". Radioactive Kr-85 is used as the source of radiation to measure industrial material thickness.

The winner of the weekly element quiz is Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security and he will get the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week. Quite the diversity of Quiz guesses this week.
Kudos goes to Nigel Burtt for recognizing that the word "hidden" was a clue discriminator - Clumpy and Kloumpios were a little disappointed Nigel

was thinking Latin and not Greek. The Boys hopped on Interstate 80 in their John Deere tractors and are heading out to Tom's facility asap.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

Past Quiz winners/tasks:
Week 1 Dick Krug, Spartan Complex Systems
- Clumpy and Kloumpios arrived and were happy to get some warm weather.
Saturday they helped rake leaves (yes it's fall in Tampa) then went to the

Florida State Fair. They seemed most interested in some of the new
tractors, muttering something about the closed cab would be a more
comfortable ride, but they also took advantage of the opportunity for Fair

food. I couldn't believe how much deep fried food they ate - Snickers,
butter, burgers, ..., you name it. Yesterday they didn't feel good so
just sat around in the sun most of the day. This week I'm going to pick
their brains on how to improve our ECN implementation process. If they
can't contribute much I'll send them back to the fair as sort of a winter
vacation.

Week 2 Laura Turbini, IRC
- unknown

Week 3 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
- assisted with a "haring" activity

And Pat Goodyear, PGE
 - This time the boys will get to do some REAL work, they each have scoop
shovels and at present are shoveling piles of U-O2 pellets for refueling
the cook pot. We are in the middle of a 60 day refuel outage so their
help came at an opportune time, the majority of our contract crew left
this evening, (laid off). They are however complaining that it is hot
and they have been working in dry suits and sweating profusely, and they
have no beers to drop, not allowed on the property. I offered them Gator

aid but they just laughed. I asked them if they knew anything about
electronics and they could work with us technicians, but they just mumbled

about John Deere tractors. They will be working the next 3 days around
the clock, they will get rest when they are done, we have to get back on
schedule.

Week 4 Joe Russeau, Precision Analysts Laboratory
- assisted with running an ion chromatograph and see how adept they are at

reviewing SIR data.

Week 5 Tom Carroll, Boeing Defense, Space and Security
- assisted with ????

Everyone have a safe week!
