I have both the CID & CID+ Certifications, and I don't think it can hurt. It gives companies (think Human Resources) something to evaluate a potential hire with.

I've been at PCB design for 20+ years, hoping that I only have another 20 to go (wishful thinking, I'm afraid).

Subject: [TN] designer certification

All, I need advice. I've been employed performing board design/layout for 30+ years now. In order to keep employed for another 25 or so, a family member recommends taking the next step an getting a EE degree, but I very much prefer the design/manufactuing side, alaways have, always will. My question is, I think there is some kind of (IPC?) certification for designers? there's alot to wade thru doing a search, but I seem to remember this carried a bit of weight awhile ago, but I don't hear much about "layout designer" credentials lately, was it just a spend-your-money-get-a-fancy-title thing? Apologies this is not on the technical side, My email is below for further discussion and thanks in advance. [log in to unmask]
