Well I'd almost have to say both!

I was asked to verify the gerbers and the fab notes.

Don't have much experience in those fab notes and in a previous life, I had a lot more reference documents to help me out, + a good DFM check list that I am seriously missing at the moment.

At least that cleared up some question marks. Thank you all!
