Dale,

We use systems made by Science Scope, 10-50X digital mag, they have counter balanced heads and arms, binocular microscopes with capture, halogen or led adjustable lighting, and a large relief so you can solder underneath the lens. However their video-capture cards leave something to be desired, they don't work well with Dell desktops they fight the onboard video cards took me a while to find a work around.

We use them for board inspection and repair if it can't be done under a standard magnifier.

Hi Dale,

What are you measuring? That will make a difference.

I researched vision measurement systems for machined parts a few years ago. SmartScope was the best of the bunch we evaluated. But for budget reasons we ended up buying a less expensive brand, MVP.

If you are looking for AOI, that is a totally different animal.

Best regards,

Our old Vision Gauge microscopic viewing/capture system finally bit the dust and I'd like to solicit your inputs on a replacement. The old system was a HIROX KH-2200 analog system, but we can go either analog or digital depending on where we get the most bang for the buck. Really do need something that can do 2-D measurements (3-D would be great, but I understand lots more expensive), and can capture the pictures in some common format like JPG or BMP or even port to PDF. Has to be a color system, not just B&W or grayscale.

I have been pricing HIROX systems and they seem a bit pricey, but maybe they are the best choice in this arena. Anyway, that's why I'm asking for feedback from those that know.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give us as we start the search! Please contact me offline if you'd rather not publicly comment about any particular vision system manufacturers.

Have a GREAT Friday Quiz!
