Larry,
The usual UV light used for coating inspection is neither of the right 
wavelength or intensity to harm the eyes.  And almost all polycarbonate 
safety glasses, which everyone should be wearing, have UV absorbers 
incorporated into them.   You don't really have to start thinking about 
eye protection until you start getting into the UV lights used to image or 
cure materials.
