Pretty much any of the recognized name brands of PCB design tools out there
are what you could call "Solid" to do basic to moderately complex designs.
Any of them can get the design out the door.
To really answer and filter the list down you have to consider the type
of designs you will be needing to do 80-90% of the time. Again, and I will qualify that with
in most cases, any system will get the design out the door "Solid" or correctly
but you may have to be a little creative with some to make that happen.
With a lesser system then the few times you have to do something really complex
Yes you'll take a little longer to do it and struggle but still get it done.
You can look at it this way, some may not agree but, in general terms
the less you spend on a CAD system the more extra work & time you will be spending
on certain things. Simply in most case the more you spend, the more bells and whistles
you get to make your job easier better and faster. But there is a big trade off on cost vs performance that you need to consider based on type of designs you do or will be doing,
maybe same company upgrade path is very important? Of course there are some exceptions
that offer a lot of bang for the buck. This is a very hard subject to give an answer
to because for 10 different designers you'll get 10 different answers as to why
Orcad PCB is the best or worst product on the market.

You really need to just download some
demos and kick the tires on a few systems.

Subject: [DC] Software Designs

Hi I would like to know if any of you consider OrCAD PCB Designer to be a good solid software for providing the PCB layout and drilling files needed for manufacturing a circuit board.
