Are you trying to verify a specific cable or a process? Do you at least have a top view where the blades cut through the insulation? I would recommend both visual inspection and cross-section. With visual inspection, verify the wires are properly positioned, IDC blades are protruding through the insulation (in a uniform manner) and the connector clips are fully engaged. If you need to verify a particular cable non-destructively, try x-ray.

Subject: [TN] IDC Connector Inspection

Per IPC-620 6.2.2 Discrete Wire Termination-Position of Wire for IDC connectors, the conductor of the wire is to be completely in the connection slot of the connector. If you do NOT have an end view of the connection to verify the location of the conductor, how is the location of the conductor within the connector connection area verified? Perform some type of depth measurement from the top? Thank you in advance for your help.
