Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz Question:

The Question:

This element plays no role in living organisms and is not normally found
outside nuclear facilities. Three different research groups in the 1930s
claimed to have discovered this element but were mistaken. This element
was discovered in 1940 but that discovery was keep secret due to WW2. This

element does occur naturally on the Earth in very very very minute
quantities. What element is being described?

The Answer:

The element is Neptunium (Np! Neptunium derives its name from the planet
Neptune as Np is the element following Uranium (named for the planet
Uranus). The first pure Np compound (NpO2) was created in 1944. Edwin
McMillan made Np from uranium-238 at the Berkeley labs in May 1940.

The winner of the weekly element quiz is James Head, Crowcon Detection
Instruments Limited, and he will get the services of Clumpy and
Kloumpios for the week. Clumpy and Kloumpios jumped on a cargo flight
today for Jame's facility.
