BGA Challenges Update - How deal with the impact of finer pitch, diff pairs,
and new packages

Presentation by: Charles Pfeil, Engineering Director at Mentor Graphics

Charles Pfeil has been in the PCB design industry for 40+ years and he
literally wrote the book on BGAs. There are many benefits to using the BGA
package; however its greatest asset - the ability to provide an extremely
dense array of thousands of pins - also turns out to be a tremendous problem
for PCB designers. The BGA density and pin count continues to increase; yet,
our ability to effectively design with these devices has not kept pace.

When Charles presented at our chapter meeting in March 2010, he attracted an
audience of 101, which was the highest attendance we've ever experienced.
At that meeting he presented some key points from his book "BGA Breakouts &
Routing", yet BGA technology has continued to evolve and present new
challenges. Finer pitch BGAs (0.65, 0.5, 0.4mm and smaller) are being used
on all types of designs - as opposed to just mobile devices. The use of
differential pairs has increased dramatically and a number of new package
styles have emerged. In this Lunch n' Learn session, Charles will discuss
some solutions for these challenges and will conduct an open Question &
Answer period to address your current and future technology breakout and
routing issues.

Reserve a spot on your calendar on Tuesday, October 23rd from 11:30am to
1:30pm for this educational "Lunch 'n Learn" meeting event.
