Subject: [TN] MPI vs SOP correct distinction
Hello,
Can someone help me clarifying the proper distinction between a
"Standard Operation Process/Procedure" and a "Manufacturing Product
Instruction"?
From was I was taught and according to my experience I am presenting the
following quick definitions with my team at work, however if there is
more technical information it would be really appreciated.
SOP .- Standard Operation Process
* An SOP is more text based and/or flowchart format, and generic.
* An SOP deals with the procedure of a generic and repetitive
operation or equipment inside an industry.
* Due to the "Standardisation" part of the SOP, this document
receives small changes once it is released and revisions are made every
time the Standardisation of a procedure or the Equipment is being
changed, not taking into account how many different customers, products
we are talking about.
MPI .- Manufacturing Product Instruction
* An MPI is more pictographic, detailed and specific to an
assembly.
* An MPI deals with a customized set of instructions, meaning
"per customer-product" basis, to manufacture an specific item.
* Due to the "customer/End item" focus of the MPI it is
considered to be a "live" document, meaning, always changing- improving,
always based on assemblies or final products.
Best regards,
Natalia Paulina Piedras Rodriguez
