Who is doing the recycling? Can you clarify what you mean by recycled
solder?
Squeezed out dross from your own pot? Old solderpaste/bits of old flux core
wire?
Bought in from a low priced supplier?
There are hazards with all of this, technical and or health/safety, i.e.
Adding solder paste to solder post, will produce loads of fume, possibly
eruptions of molten metal, could even catch fire.

You will certainly be increasing the chance for introducing uncontrolled
variables to your line and will need to have a good analysis programme and
relate it to SPC feedback. If this is being done on the grounds of cost its
hard to see how much money you would actually save, but that would also be
interesting to know: what is objective of the recycle solder initiative.
There may be better ways of achieving it.

Subject: [TN] Recycled solder?

Our CM has proposed using recycled solder (lead free) in the wave, They
plan to keep the mix at no more than 50% recycled/new. They will not use
chemical recycling processes.

What should we be watching for? What are the risks and indicators?

Pete
