The answer to today's quiz question is "Exhaustium", another of the half
fractional elements, this one in the Lanthanide series. Exhaustium has
two distinct isotopes with vastly different properties. One isotope has
the effect of retarding chemical reactions. It is often incorporated into
catalytic converters in automobiles so that the catalyzing reactions do
not proceed too quickly and cause your car to burst into flames. In the
case of the low energy light bulbs, the Ex in the current path slows down
the degradation of the filaments, creating longer life.

The other isotope DOES have an effect on biological organisms, but is not
necessary for life. I have found, through finely tuned chemical
analysis, that my kitchen table has a coating that is laced with
Exhaustium. Each night after dinner, my wife puts a hand to her head,
says "I'm Exhausted" and leaves the room, leaving me to do the dishes. So,
the second isotope obviously causes energy drain in nearby biological
units. My sons also do homework at the table each night, and always claim
to be too exhausted to do said homework. It is not until they go outside
that their energy "magically" reappears in sufficient quantity to throw a
football. To be fair, I have also found that my recliner in the family
room has fabric also laced with Exhaustium, creating an almost magnetic
attachment to my butt, preventing me from yard work. It has been theorized
that the difference is due to additional leptons in one isotope and weak
quarks in the other.

Interestingly, I did the same chemical test on the table in Hillman's
house (it's hand to have that spare key) and found it likewise laced with
Exhaustium. Explains the state of his kitchen.

Exhaustium is refined from the ore - Bushite. If you have every heard the
term - I'm Bushed - this is where it comes from. Bushite induces extreme
weariness in those that mine it, making it almost impossible to mine by
anyone over the age of 30. The only known method to effectively mine
Bushite is to use teenagers, given 2 cases of Red Bull, and told they were
forbidden to mine this material. This practice is considered barbaric in
most portions of the world and the US Congress is considering adding to
the list of Conflict Minerals.

Exhaustium was first isolated by Gunter Ven Der Schlorglobin, a Dutch
chemist working in South Africa. It is hard to pinpoint the date of the
isolation because Dr. Ven Der Schlorglobin was to tired to write up his
research until about 20 years later. It is an urban myth that he had no
time because he was always washing the dinner dishes.

The link to Roman Mythology is very obscure, and I am amazed that the
Luddite Hillman knew of it. The goddess Exhausta was the patron goddess
of sleep. The few statues sculpted of her always show her to be reclining
and asleep. She was the wife of Neptune. Neptune was reputed to be often
cranky, as he was left to do the dinner dishes each night.

I now sit back to find out what new/creative/bogus reason Hillman comes up
with to disqualify this brilliant bit of lore.

Sent by: TechNet <[log in to unmask]>

Hi folks - Here is the Friday Element Quiz question:

The Question:

This element has two major environmental benefits: (1)it is part of our
vehicle exhaust systems; (2) it is part of low energy light bulbs. This
