Hi Joyce - neither one of these documents is a "standardized industry
manual soldering profile" as such a creature does not exist. There are a
number of factors that influence the temperature profile of a manual
soldering operation. I think Dick is looking for something like we find in
JSTD-033 but we don't have a typical temperature profile for a manual
soldering process that I am aware of in the specifications.

Since the wrong temperature can be our worst nightmare, I would do a temp
test starting with the lowest and increasing until I had the proper temp
to do the job. I have always done this when there is no temp documented to
go by. The proper size tip is also very important.

No, an optimized time-temperature profile depends on many factors, the
solder paste formula, the board laminate, the components on the assembly .

A customer has asked whether IPC has a standard temperature profile for
RoHS
Pb-Free hand soldering. I'm not aware of one and since there are multiple
RoHS compliant alloys I don't know whether there should or could be one.

Is there any such document or series of documents?
