I've taken to labeling the batteries as they go into the smoke detectors; that way I'll know at a glance how long I've been forgetting to change them. [They're all dual power in the my house, so I don't see a need to change twice/year.] I really should label the CFL's with date installed and who made them, as it's been kinda hit and miss. Mostly miss. The 60W equivalents in the bathroom take a minute or so to come up to full brightness. Worse is the floods in the ceilings, which in our summer heat are showing that they will take minutes in winter cold to get full brightness... That reminds me, I should change the CFL that is on the porch--I don't know why we stuck one out there, as it's a really bad spot (20F winter temps on average? Often far less).

I wish I could complain properly, but since I didn't write down what they are, and when they went in, I really can't. I think all the new ones going in are going to have be labeled from now on.

I do look forward to long life LED's. I bought one a couple years ago ($20? Was pricey) to try out; I think 40W equivalent. It's in basically a reading lamp. Works well enough, but it too takes a couple seconds to turn on. And then, once off, it will "glow" for a bit. Thankfully it's under a lampshade, but I'm not sure I would care for the effect in ceiling floods.
