LED bulbs are great on my old car too!
They are less strain on the wiring and its slightly beyond design life
insulation, and bright without having to renew all the 50 year old (well
tarnished and inaccessible) connectors. Cost doesn't register in the scheme
of things here.

Regards

Well - at least if you want to go the hording route it will be cheap,
you can probably fill a closet with spare bulbs for a couple hundred
bucks...

I've had similar experience with the CFLs, so I hesitate to try them
again. I use LEDs throughout the sailboat though, since power is a more
scarce commodity. The ability to light the boat for a few amps is
great! The cost is not so great.

I WILL RUN CFL'S WHEN THE PRY THE LAST INCANDESCENT FROM MY DYING
FINGERS!!!!
I installed CFL's when they first came out a few years ago, out of 10
bulbs I installed 8 caught fire, one ballast exploded and one quit after
about 4 months. I will never install CFL's I will go to coal-oil fired
lanterns first.

A very interesting discussion about what's inside these new devices.
Have any of you torn one of them apart to see how well they are made?
You'll be amazed at the poor quality of the components in a lamp that's
supposed to have a 10 year life.

IFTLE 98 Lester the Lightbulb vs CFL and LED : the Saga Continues By Dr
Phil Garrou

In IFTLE 63 [ see IFTLE 63, "Bidding Adieu to Lester Lightbulb
http://www.electroiq.com/blogs/insights_from_leading_edge/2011/08/iftle-
63-bidding-adieu-to-lester-lightbulb.html] back in Aug 2011 IFTLE
attempted to make the case that our little 25 cent friend Lester the
incandescent bulb had gotten a bump rap as he awaited extinction on
death row.

It's not that the claims of the newer technologies (CFL and LED) using
less power than incandescent bulbs are invalid, but rather what appears
to be the bold faced lie that their much greater cost is compensated by
their decades long lifetimes that upsets all Lester supporters.
