We did the same Bert,  It's worked well for us although we have had to adapt it to the newer SMT parts that are now available.  If you'd like a copy of the list (its in a Excel spreadsheet) I'll be happy to share it with you.

We are establishing an internal part numbering system.

 

Request referral to  classification/category schema.

 

In the past (1980s) used EEM  catalogue.

 

Don't see it available or updated out there.
