Dear Gerald
I would suggest that you have a conversation with someone like JTAG
Technologies. I choose them as that is who we use and they are a
professional bunch who have been in the business a long time. They have
proved themselves to be very helpful.
I would expect that they have been asked this kind of question before
and be able to give you a quick answer.

I am slightly concerned over your interpretation of the ISO 9001
requirement. That might be worth revisiting.
We have procedures for checking the validity of test for certified
product but do not routinely go beyond an exceptions list, which
includes test limitations on components, for our ISO.

Regards
Rex

Subject: [TN] Performing V&V for Boundary-Scan (JTAG) circuit card
assembly software

July 5, 2012

Folks, we have several OEMs who perform Boundary-Scan (JTAG) testing of
CCAs. These are ISO 9001 shops and ISO 9001 requirement 7.6 requires
that the ability of computer software to satisfy the intended
application shall be confirmed prior to initial use and reconfirmed as
necessary.

Since Boundary-Scan (JTAG) testing is software driven, the ISO
requirement would apply. Basically, this is software Verification and
Validation (V & V).

How does one go about performing V&V for a typical moderately complex
CCA with sufficient detail to satisfy the ISO 9001 requirement?

Since the OEM sub-contracted development of the JTAG software to a
supplier who does this for a living, we have some level of confidence it
was developed correctly (the OENM provided a golden board and electrical
schematic); however, we are looking for some cost effective method to do
a V & V to convince us the software was developed correctly.

Any help or tutorial on the subject would be appreciated.
