I'd go to a local salvage yard or recycle yard and look for old computers or other equipment, you'd be surprised what you find.

Katy,
The best is go to some local electronic active surplus store and buy few of boards (they might be mount on old computer chassis, or system etc). I used to go to one of the surplus store and look at the "X" board and try to figure out why it is not working. You learn a lot look at different layout and mounting without have to deal with NDAs or other problems (except the nasty look of the store owner if you don't buy something - I usually do buy some junk for prototype, copper sheet, fan, etc).

Subject: [TN] IPC J-STD-001 Boards for the inspection lab of training

Hello fellow technetters!

I have an issue that I hope someone can help me with. I need to get my hands on some PCB boards to use in the inspection lab for 001 training. The issue that I have is that I do not work in a board shop, where I work we solder cables and due to this we need to have some people trained to J-STD-001E. Does anyone out there have a couple populated boards that either have defects (or I can create them) they would be willing to give me? Otherwise, are there sources out there that sell populated boards for this purpose? Thanks in advance.
