Hi Ken,
Thanks. I am familiar with FR408. However my thinking was that it is
only marginally superior to FR4. I will definitely look it up.
Simulations show marginal performance with FR4, but I will check again on
the actual design. If we can make it work with FR4 then it will make my
task much simpler.

RE: [TN] Low Loss PCB Material
Ravinder,
I am a fan of the Isola FR408 for hi-speed designs.
http://www.isola-group.com/products/fr408/
This is what we used at Adaptec for all our hi-speed boards.
That being said, I recently designed a 10GBit PCB that my customer uses
standard 170C tg FR-4 and it works fine.
Not my call on the substrate but it does work...
Ken

Subject: [TN] Low Loss PCB Material
Hi All,
We discussed with our quick-turn fab the use of low-loss PCB materials for
high-speed applications. As per the discussions, the only such material
that
is Halogen-Free and has UL Approval seems to be Rogers Theta material. If
there are other materials available in US and more importantly at the
high-volume fabs off-shore then please share the information. I will
really
appreciate it.
Thanks.
