Your memory is correct as confirmed by Brian and Bev. You can also buy a kit
from at least one of the cleaner supply companies. I don't know their
chemistry but it comes with all that you need to get a yes no answer. Rosin
also fluoresces faintly under UV, but this test may not be reliable in thin
deposits or if you have other stuff which also fluoresces, Conformal coat
for example. Just eyeballing under a high power is also good, especially if
you have a "golden" specimen for comparison.
It would be interesting to know why you want to know this, what concern are
you addressing. The presence or absence of rosin of itself may not mean
anything.

Subject: [TN] Spot test for Rosin Residue

I seem to recall a wet chemical spot test for rosin residues.

Something that required:

	* Piece of filter paper.
	* Sugar solution .
	* Dilute Sulfuric acid.

If the final spot went red, it would indicate the presence of rosin.

Does anybody recall this test and have the details?

Thanks in advance
