Hi All,

Thanks to all who have responded. Perhaps I should add that this is a
12-layer PCB, and the 2 oz Copper layer will be used for Power/Ground
only. The signal layers will be 1/2 oz thick.

Re: [TN] Core with uneven Copper foil thickness

Ravinder;

Although uneven copper thicknesses on a core are more common that one
would expect, 1/2 oz. versus 2 oz. can cause some issues during the
etching process, depending on trace pitch and tolerances. One would need
to see the gerber files to determine if it would be an issue.

There are ways to get around this issue on Multilayer flex, but if this is
just a double layer flex it has to be addressed. There are techniques,
using a combination of additive/subtractive processes, to build up
thickness during processing on just one side. Again, the trace widths and
tolerances can influence this type of processing.

Subject: [TN] Core with uneven Copper foil thickness

Hi,

We are considering a layer stackup which uses Cores with uneven Copper
foil thickness. Copper on one side is 1/2 oz and on the other side is 2
oz. Apart from the availability/cost considerations are there other
issues with using such a Core.

I will appreciate the opinions of experts on this.

Thanks.
