This plant has full SMT lines. PTH parts are hand-placed.

Subject: [TN] PTH radial versus axial capacitors

Ok, here is my question for this week.

We still build many PTH boards. Traditional design using radial lead
ceramic capacitors. I'm being told that "99%" of contract manufacturers
can't machine insert radial leaded parts. So the desire is to change
our ceramic caps to axial leaded.

To the CMs reading this, what are your capabilities for inserting radial
leaded ceramic capacitors, by hand only or automatic?

In-house we use Contact Systems semi-automatic placement machines and
this is not an issue.
