Actually I did Scott. I have to do this stuff in the afternoon, once the
morning caffeine kick has worn off. :o)

But what I can do is nothing compared to what some of the ladies do around
here. They stack 0402 capacitors on top of each other in wet paste, with
each individual capacitor getting paste dispensed on each termination before
the next one is placed on top of it. Once the stacks are completed the board
is ran through the reflow oven. Some of these boards are 40-layer 17" X 22"
PCB's and they're usually working in towards the middle of the board...I
don't know how they do it. We've had boards that have had over 600 double
stacks on them (that was on both sides of the boards).

So putting a few solder balls on a board and taking a picture is considered
pretty easy stuff around here. :o)

I have done some 0603 stacks, but not 0402's. I don't have the touch for
that yet...

If Steve placed that solder ball then he's definitely got better eyesight
and dexterity than me.

I'm putting together some internal training materials on ANOVA, regression,
and DOE and I'm making up an example scenario along with some fake data for
the students to work through. Can someone send me a picture of a small
solder ball (maybe a mid-chip solder ball from a resistor) that got loose
and lodged between a pair of QFP/SOIC/BGA leads causing a short? I have
plenty of pictures of mid-chip solder balls from back when we were using
rectangular paste apertures, but I don't have a picture of one getting loose
causing a short.

Thanks,
