Haven't followed this thread in it's entirety but it's important to note that the ECAD tool vendors play a role in the terminology designers adopt. Designers typically use the same terminology that their CAD toolsets do, and it almost seems like some form of a trademark game with the vendors.
I've seen land patterns called footprints, decals, symbols, geometries ... becomes interesting when I'm supporting designs in multiple toolsets concurrently.
Does anyone else see the irony that the company that now owns the rights to the IPC Land Pattern tools uses different terminology in their own software offerings?
